GPS tracking and SIM card
As you probably know by now, u GPS tracker / GPS locator device a SIM phone card is inserted in order to be able to perform GPS tracking (tracking the object in real time). Older versions of GPS satellite tracking devices could only record the movement the device made, without the ability to send the data to the web.
Such devices were called "GPS loggers", and mostly looked like a USB stick. When you connect such a USB stick to a computer, you can transfer a file containing movement data (speeds, location).
There are various standards for storing such information, and often the so-called overlays of these data work with Google maps, or other cartographic data sources.
In the last 10-15 years, it has become cheap enough to enable devices to connect to the Internet. There are different ways to do this, and in this text we will focus on SIM phone card. The card is easy to get, often no subscription is required (eg prepaid), and the only information you need to know to activate the card is the Access Point Name (APN). It is necessary to enter the APN information in the settings of the device (as well as the mobile phone) and the device can be connected to the Internet with the inserted card.
BeeDigital SIM card for GPS tracking – avoid problems with a weak GSM signal
It sounds as if the problem with the Internet connection has been solved, but unfortunately that is far from the truth. The device connects to the Internet, sends its data, but there are a number of limitations which are not easily comprehensible to an ordinary user.
To begin with, the SIM phone card that we buy at the kiosk is a phone card of a certain operator. Tele operators in Croatia are T-Mobile, A1 (former VIPnet) and Tele2. Bonbon, Tomato and similar operators are actually sister companies/companies of T-Mobile, A1 and Tele2, so they use the same telecommunications infrastructure.
Let's get back to GPS tracker device. It is connected to the network of the operator that issues the card via the inserted SIM phone card. So, if we have a T-Mobile phone card (SIMPA or BonBon), the device will always connect to the T-Mobile network.
The signal coverage in Croatia is certainly good, but on the Adriatic Sea it very often happens that there is no T-Mobile signal, and for example there is a signal from A1. The BonBon card will of course not connect to another network and the GPS tracker device will not be able to send movement information even if the signal of the other network is good (for example A1).
Better devices, which you can get from us, remember information about movement and send it when the network is available, but still - a real-time overview of the movement is not possible. It will not be possible to make contact with the ship in the sense of turning off the ship's engine, detecting the ignition of the bilge pump or the like.
The BeeDigital M2M Business SIM card solves all these problems. How?
The BeeDigital M2M card is not a SIM card from any of the available teleoperators. In other words it is a "network agnostic" SIM card. For example, when the A1 signal is stronger – the card connects to A1, when the Tele2 signal is stronger – the card connects to Tele2. Therefore, there is no preference of teleoperators and no loss of connection to the Internet.
This solution is best for areas where ships sail, but also where machines, trucks and other vehicles are driven in the forest and on hard-to-reach terrains. These are areas where teleoperators simply have no interest in covering all parts of Lipa naša. In those parts, our M2M card works great - it connects to whatever network is available.
Considering how BeeDigital cards enable connection to more than 300 teleoperators, in more than 130 countries, it is clear that phone cards such as SIMPA or A1 simply do not have the same quality of reception.
With the BeeDigital M2M Business SIM card, you can move freely in all areas, regardless of signal coverage
